Being Chinese, somehow it seems UNNATURAL to move out before marriage (and sometimes even AFTER, *shivers*), if a child moves out to live (apart from a uni dorm), all the neighbors would assume that there are some serious problems between the child and parents. Compared to the western culture where someone still lives with mommy and daddy after 25, it would be borderline loser/freak. The reason behind such difference goes back to social security issues and family values etc etc which would be too long to go into.
Now I have been strategically bringing up possibilities of moving out and get my own place since I can afford it, it has been a slightly bumpy ride, not so much lack of understanding and support from the parents, but more of a "grinding of the east and west", where they got the impression that I disliked them, which was not the case. It is more about the experience of living a bachelor life, being completely independent, building my own life with my own hands, and this, in my opinion is everyone's must have experience. If you cannot even sort yourself out, how can you be sure that you can provide for a family? (unlikely I'll have a gay one tho lol)
Anyways long story short, now I have found a place I am happy with, and will try out my luck at the auction coming up, fingers crossed! However I have been having slight guilty feelings, feels as if I'm abandoning my parents, and leaving them lonely in our current place. I'm sure it is not as bad as I made it sound, but just can't help with it. I suppose this is what it takes to make decisions like this, everything you obtain, you lose something in exchange. Independence will mean that I will lose the constant "family" feeling that I got accustomed to.
Nevertheless, it is still very exciting to finally take the leap and start to build my own empire!
Above doesn't really make much sense and is probably full of contradictions, but since probably not much people are reading this, might as well use this as a journal......too lazy to delete anyways.
